COLOGNE : September 5, 2008 - Mondeo is among the latest models to benefit from the added choice and exclusivity of 'Ford Individual', the company's vehicle personalisation programme, whose design team have focused on enhancing the quality and style of Mondeo's highly crafted interior.


First shown as a design study at the 2007 Frankfurt Show and now revealed in production form at the 2008 Paris Show, the Mondeo 'Ford Individual' package offers an extended range of features and equipment, designed to provide extra choice and individuality at the top of the Mondeo range.

"The Ford Individual programme has been very successful since its introduction on
S-MAX and we have expanded the range progressively to include more vehicles, each with a bespoke treatment," explains Bernhard Mattes, Vice-President, Ford Customer Service Division, Europe. "The reaction to the Mondeo with interior Ford Individual styling as a study was extremely positive and demand was strong for us to bring it to production."

Exclusive styling
Four bespoke themes have been tailored to Mondeo Ghia and Titanium models, each offering exclusive styling, high-grade materials and meticulous attention to detail.

All options feature heated eight-way power front seats with an adjustable lumbar support, wrapped in high quality nappa and grained leather -- with 'hand-stitching' effect or an eye-catching cross-stitch, for additional style -- and embossed with the Ford 'Individual' signature.

Rear seats are trimmed and styled to match, in the same quality leather and with an 'Individual' signature to the centre rear armrest to finish. The full leather trim also extends to armrests, door panel inserts, gear shift gaiter and handbrake gaiter.

While luxurious leather trim is the most obvious enhancement with Ford Individual, it is complemented by an array of interior styling and convenience features.

The well-appointed driver's seat and powered door mirrors also incorporate memory functions that can recall stored settings at the touch of a button. Smart additional touches include sports-style pedals and footrest with non-slip aluminium covers and 'Individual'-branded stainless steel front door scuff plates.

Deep pile floor mats are a stylish and functional finishing touch, protecting and enhancing the Mondeo cabin.

An elegant 'Beige/Dark Beige' theme has been developed exclusively for Ghia customers choosing the Biscuit interior colour. 'Light Beige/Ebony' is available for both Ghia and Titanium models with ebony interior environment. Two modern, sports themes are also available for Titanium -- 'Tan/Ebony' or 'Ebony' -- for customers specifying Ebony interiors.

Each reflects the style, quality and materials of the models to which they are applied and have also been developed to complement exterior styling options for Mondeo.

"The Ford Individual Exterior Styling Kit has been available for five-door and wagon Mondeo models since the end of 2007 and has been very popular," said John McLeod, Chief Designer, Vehicle Personalisation, Ford of Europe. "The new interior styling features complement the exterior perfectly and are finished in the same quality of materials and craftsmanship that Mondeo customers have come to expect."

Visitors to Ford's Paris Show stand will see a Mondeo Titanium in classic Sea Grey metallic paint, showcasing the Ford Individual 'Light Beige' interior theme with Ebony piping for Mondeo.

For Mondeo, the Ford Individual option will be introduced across Europe from autumn 2008. From spring 2009, it will be extended to include unique 18-inch, five-spoke Ford Individual alloy wheels, with an iridescent 'Mystique Silver' paint finish designed to catch the sunlight.

COLOGNE : September 5, 2008 - Ford of Europe is previewing new powertrain and styling enhancements for the new Ford Kuga at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.


Early in 2009, the dynamic Kuga range will be extended with the availability of an exciting new 200 PS, 2.5-litre Duratec Turbo petrol engine as well as a new optional Durashift 5-tronic automatic transmission.

In addition to these new powertrain choices, the Kuga will also be available with Ford Individual vehicle personalisation options, combining a new exterior body kit and specially designed 20-inch alloy wheels with a classy interior treatment.

Smooth and Powerful
Although the 136 PS 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engined Ford Kuga is no slouch, the addition of the dynamic new 200 PS 2.5-litre Duratec 5-cylinder Turbo petrol engine to the range offers drivers smooth but agile power and high torque levels over a wide speed range, combined with a high level of refinement and a distinctive engine sound.

The new engine for Kuga is based on the well-proven and acclaimed Ford 2.5-litre Duratec Turbo engine already available in the latest Ford Mondeo and S-MAX models as well as the sporty Focus ST.
The unit has been carefully re-calibrated for the Kuga to meet the performance expectations that customers have in the compact All-Wheel-Drive crossover segment.

Gunnar Herrmann, C-Car Vehicle Line Director, Ford of Europe said, "We always intended the new Kuga to be the most dynamic crossover vehicle in its class. The new 2.5-litre Duratec Turbo petrol powertrain offers extra performance and is a perfect match for the vehicle. The added power and refinement adds a lot of fun when driving Kuga both on- and off-road."

The Ford Kuga 2.5 Turbo comes with the acclaimed, Haldex Gen 4 Intelligent AWD system and manual 6-speed transmission as standard, and delivers impressive performance. With a maximum power output of 200 PS (147 kW) at 6,000 rpm and a linear torque peak of 320 Nm being available from 1,600 up to 4,000 rpm, the vehicle reaches a top speed of 208 kph. For a vehicle in this segment and performance, the homologated combined fuel economy of just 9.9 l/100 km (average CO2 output
234 g/km) is very reasonable.

But it's not all about performance. A detailed re-tuning of the exhaust tone makes sure that the driver can really enjoy the characteristic and sonorous 5-cylinder turbo sound - powerful yet highly refined.

Herrmann said, "Even though we expect the majority of customers across Europe to opt for the power and compelling fuel economy and environmental figures of the 136 PS 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi powertrain, we wanted to meet the demands of customers in many markets who have asked us for a high performance petrol engine to complement the Kuga's distinctive and sporty style. The Kuga 2.5 is a real driver's vehicle!"
The new Kuga 2.5-litre Duratec Turbo will be available to customers all over Europe from the beginning of 2009.

An Automatic Choice
As an option, the Ford Kuga equipped with the new 2.5-litre Duratec engine will also be available with the Durashift 5-tronic automatic transmission.

This combination not only takes full advantage of the high and very linear torque performance of the 5-cylinder turbo engine, it also adds significant comfort, refinement and versatility to the Kuga.

Key to the versatility of the new Durashift 5-tronic is the ability for the driver to switch between different modes. To allow maximum driver involvement, a Manual mode is provided, giving full control of the five forward gears. Sport and Manual modes give faster transmission reaction times to minimal throttle inputs from the driver, providing a sportier and more dynamic driving style.

When the 'S' mode is engaged, the driver can enjoy the fully automatic Sport mode which activates up- and downshifts at different shift points as appropriate. Information related to modes and gear selection is provided in the central instrument cluster display.

The transmission hardware was designed and manufactured for Ford by Aisin AW, a company with a worldwide and longstanding reputation for providing reliable transmissions that break new ground in the automatic transmission arena. Fords' engineers worked closely with Aisin AW to tailor the Transmission Control Module (TCM) software to complement and enhance the Kuga's driving dynamics performance.

The TCM incorporates sophisticated, adaptive learning procedures. After the prescribed running-in period the transmission will provide optimum gear shifting smoothness for all conditions irrespective of terrain or driver input. The transmission will adapt to perform within its optimum window of operation to always provide maximum smoothness when changing gear, irrespective of the mode selected.
The new Durashift 5-tronic is very efficient, too. With a combined fuel economy being homologated at 10.3 l/100 km (average CO2 output 244 g/km), the fuel consumption is just 0.4 l/100 km higher than with the standard 6-speed manual transmission. Combined with the new Duratec 2.5-litre Turbo, the new Durashift 5-tronic for Kuga will hit European dealerships in early 2009.

Style for the Individual
Following in the footsteps of the Ford Mondeo, S-MAX, Galaxy and New Fiesta, the Ford Kuga will be available with an exciting and very luxurious Ford Individual interior treatment.

Ford's Vehicle Personalisation Design Team has developed a luxurious interior option for the top-of-the-range Kuga Titanium that was inspired by the iosis X Concept first shown at the 2006 Paris Motor Show and the Kuga preview vehicle that was displayed at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Laura Blossfeld-Smith, Interior Designer, Vehicle Personalisation, Ford of Europe, explains, "With Ford Individual we are looking for additional quality options for customers who wish to enhance their vehicles further. Customers for stylish vehicles like the Kuga often express a wish to make their car more individual than the norm. The Paris show car interior is a preview of what will be available to Kuga customers early next year."

Taking full advantage of the 'kinetic' shapes of the Kuga's interior, the Ford Individual Design team has developed a completely new colour scheme, and combined it with premium quality materials, with contrasting colours and textures.

For the seats, two ultra-high quality leathers have been chosen. Very smooth, Ebony coloured Nappa leather is used on the seat bolsters and seatbacks, with specially padded areas of the seat cushions and backrests. The characteristic 'Individual' logo is embossed on the upper area of the seatback. The majority of the seat is finished in a matching colour, using a more heavily grained 'Bond' leather which provides a contrasting surface appearance as well as a high amount of grip.
Both leathers are further distinguished from each other by the use of a contrasting light grey piping, also highlighting the expressive and 'kinetic' shapes of the seat graphic.
To match the seat design and the Ice White exterior colour of the Paris preview vehicle, all prominent interior trim parts such as the centre console cladding, centre stack surfaces and the boomerang-shaped interior door-pull handles are finished in a
high-gloss 'Piano White' finish.

Standing Out
Ford's Vehicle Personalisation Design team is also developing a distinctive bodykit for the new Kuga, and this is showcased on the Paris Show vehicle.

"With the Kuga establishing itself rapidly as the stylish new member of the Ford kinetic design family, we were looking for a dramatic and distinctive body kit which we could offer to our Kuga customers interested in further enhancing the already very sporty appearance of the standard car," said John McLeod, Chief Designer, Vehicle Personalisation, Ford of Europe. "The result is very striking - I think we can claim we have succeeded in attaining our goal as well as making a clear link to the styling of the dramatic iosis X Concept and Kuga preview show cars."

This reference is evident at first glance, thanks to the front grilles which incorporate a distinctive vertical bar design and strong, chromed intakes. The lower grille is framed by broad chrome 'scoops' inspired by the iosis X Concept which instantly distinguish the Kuga with Ford Individual styling features from the standard car.

The extremely dynamic and powerful stance is further enhanced by body coloured wheel arch extensions, lower rocker claddings, and new bumpers which have been extended some 50 millimetres lower than the original design. All of these items have been finished in body colour, to make the Kuga fitted with Ford Individual styling features stand out.

Matching front and rear skid plates have also been lowered by approximately
50 millimetres, with fully encapsulated tail pipes at the rear. These and the door claddings are painted in a contrasting silver colour for added effect.

Two other features that contribute to the overtly sporty appearance of the Kuga with its Ford Individual styling elements are the new rear spoiler and alloy wheel designs.

The rear spoiler has been lengthened by around 100 millimetres, and impressive 20-inch wheels have been developed and are fitted with 255/35 ZR 20 tyres. The wheels are painted in bright 'Molten' silver, with a machined finish to the top surfaces of the spokes.

All of these body kit features are due to be made available to Kuga customers as production items in the first half of 2009.

Kuga Success
Since the Kuga launch began in Europe during May 2008, the reaction to the vehicle from customers and the media has confirmed its success.

Ingvar Sviggum, Vice President for Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe, commented: "From the very beginning of the design and development process, we couldn't wait to get the Kuga into our dealerships. We knew that it would seriously impact the market and its segment -- but it is always a pleasant surprise to find your own high expectation fully met!"

Although the introduction of the Kuga in all European markets is continuing, the car is doing very well, with around 30,000 units being produced by the end of September.

Sviggum said, "It's not just the sheer volume that is very encouraging: We are very happy to see that around 70 per cent of our customers have opted for the Titanium high series, and the premium options are also in great demand - for example, 40 per cent choosing the panoramic roof. In addition, we know that many Kuga customers are new to Ford, so that is particularly pleasing."

BANGKOK : September 5, 2008 - The three-month political standoff between the People Power Party-led government and the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has had no effect on Toyota's investment plans in Thailand.


Mitsuhiro Sonoda, president of Toyota Motor Thailand, said the Japanese automaker's diesel engine and hybrid Camry projects still continued as planned despite of the ongoing political crisis.

''We have immediately evaluated the situation after the government imposed the state of emergency on Tuesday in the wake of the fatal clashes between the pro-government [demonstrators] and the PAD,'' he said yesterday.

Toyota, like all Thai people, wants peace and economic stability to prevail.

Mr Sonoda said he was not in a position to give advice on ways to solve the crisis but he saw the media as the best organisation for this job.

Toyota yesterday introduced a minor change to its Hilux Vigo pickup trucks as scheduled. The company said the goal was to offer vehicles developed by Thai engineers.

Ninnart Chaithirapinyo, the vice-chairman of Toyota, said the postponement of the pickup-truck introduction would do more harm than good.

''The oil-price crisis has a bigger impact on the automobile industry than the political crisis does,'' he said.

The political problems, he said, should be solved by political means. The government and Parliament should be involved to help solve it.

SHANGHAI : September 5, 2008 - China's first electric car using solar energy for compensatory power has been successfully developed by an Anhui high-tech company and the car made its debut in the provincial capital of Heifei on August 29.


The solar-electric vehicle was developed by Maanshan Qisheng New-energy Technology Company in eastern China's Anhui province. The high-tech firm's chairman Wu Qi said that the company has spent six years in developing this all-new vehicle model independently by absorbing some foreign state-of-the-art technologies of auto-use new energy.

This solar-electric car design has gained the national invention patent and the vehicle is having a trial run in tourist resorts of Hainan Island in South China. Wu said the car has a top speed of 20 km/h and a lifespan of more than three years. It can run 200 km without stopping and go up a slope of 15 degrees.

China's tourism market currently needs about 100,000 units of this kind of electric car with solar energy for compensatory power. Qisheng New-energy Tech Company has plans to make 50,000 solar-electric cars annually by 2013, which will generate 2.6 billion yuan ($380 million) in output value.

SEOUL : September 5, 2008 - GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) launched today its all new luxurious large sedan, the Veritas.


"Veritas" is Latin for "truth." "The truth about the Veritas is it reflects GM Daewoo's determination to take Korea's large sedan segment to an entirely new level," said GM Daewoo President and CEO Michael Grimaldi. "This luxurious rear-wheel-drive sedan offers excellent driving performance while ensuring unmatched interior comfort, spaciousness and safety."


The Veritas is based on the L4X concept car, which made its debut at last year's Seoul Motor Show. With the combination of a dynamic exterior and luxurious interior, the Veritas redefines the premium image of a large sedan.

"The Veritas represents the start of a new era for GM Daewoo, as we begin to replace our entire current product lineup with new segment-leading models between now and 2010," said Grimaldi.


Dynamic and Luxurious Design

The Veritas delivers a dynamic and strong impression through its harmonious combination of an extremely short overhang and emphasized front fenders. The chrome radiator grille features softly curved lines that highlight the character of the large sedan.

Chrome-molded side mirrors and LED turn signals make the sedan even more prestigious. 18-inch wheels enhance the stability of the Veritas. Its smooth roof line, refined dual mufflers and LED tail lamps are simple yet modern.

The interior is another strong point of the Veritas. Ergonomically designed, the feeling of comfort is greatly enhanced. The trip computer is located between the instrument clusters, making it easy for the driver to see all important information such as fuel efficiency and driving distance,and other features are conveniently placed, allowing for easy access while driving.

Classic tube-style instrument clusters outlined in satin chrome and a center console armrest with a leather cover also reflect the high quality of the interior.


Powerful and Fuel Efficient Powertrain

The Veritas is powered by a 3.6-liter Alloytec V-6 engine that is angled at 60 degrees between the cylinder lanes to maximize movement balance and decrease vibration. In combination with the fully optimized variable intake manifold, this ensures an ideal mixture of fuel and air in the cylinders, generating 252 ps for horse power and 34Kg.m for maximum torque.

The lightweight all-aluminum engine includes advanced features such as an ECU (Engine Control Unit) that regulates fuel injection and ignition timing by controlling air intake and RPM, and an RLFS (Returnless Fuel System) that prevents fuel evaporation. As a result, the Veritas achieves outstanding fuel efficiency for its segment of 8.6 km/l.

The engine is complemented by a five-speed automatic transmission with fully optimized gear ratio settings, which further maximizes driving and fuel efficiency.It also features two new GM technologies: Active Select and Sport Shift. Active Select gives the driver the choice of shifting gears automatically or manually.Sport Shift enables more powerful and spirited driving.


Comfortable Ride and Handling

The rear-wheel-drive system contributes to the excellent handling of the Veritas, balancing the front and rear in a 50:50 ratio to increase tire surface. This not only improves driving comfort but also provides more precise steering, stable cornering and hill-climbing ability.

The optimally tuned high-performance multi-link suspension has been applied to both the front and rear wheels, resulting in a high level of control, stability and driving comfort by dispersing the impact from the road. The suspension also includes a self-stabilizing system that minimizes vibration to further improve driving and braking.

Quietness, which is one of the most important factors for consumers in buying a luxury car, has been emphasized in the Veritas. Parts that are vulnerable to noise and vibration are highly insulated to dramatically mute driving noise. In addition, the windshield incorporates noise-proof film that blocks out high-frequency noises. The application of dual mufflers regulates emission resistance and pressure, also lowering the noise level.


Highest Level of Passenger Safety

Approximately 81 percent of the body of the Veritas consists of high-strength steel for maximum passenger safety. Among the additional safety features are front dual-stage airbags that inflate according to the magnitude of a collision, and side airbags and curtain airbags that protect passengers in the event of a side impact. Seatbelt pretensioners snugly hold all occupants in their seats when needed. Load limiters loosen the safety belts following a collision to protect passengers from potential secondary harm from safety belts.

Cutting-edge ESC (Electronic Stability Control) technology integrates all safety systems to protect passengers in the event of emergency situations. Bi-Xenon headlamps provide over three times the visibility of normal headlamps, while the Headlamp Auto-Leveling System automatically controls the height of the lamps by factoring in the number of passengers and vehicle load.



Maximum Convenience for Pure Driving Joy

The Veritas provides numerous convenience features, as one would expect of a luxurious large sedan. The driver's seat moves automatically for exit, and the door handle can be positioned in four different directions (in, out, right or left) to suit different body shapes and user preferences. The Tilt/Telescopic Steering Column helps maintain the best driving position.

The navigation system with DMB imbedded in the Veritas is integrated with the TPEG system, which provides information on the shortest route to destinations. With the Bose premium non-directional audio system, the Veritas has the best sound quality in its class. The Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control System and the VAPS (Vehicle Air Purifier System) ensure maximum comfort for all passengers.

Other luxury and convenience features include a rear-window sunshade that protects backseat passengers from strong sunlight and prying eyes, massaging seats, an LCD screen and headset, and headrests with an electric-adjust function.Buttons on the backseat armrests can control these and additional convenience features.

Additional premium convenience features include rain-sensing wipers, three-step heated seats and power seats that can be adjusted in 10 different directions.

Greatest Amount of Interior Space

The Veritas boasts the largest interior in its class, courtesy of the longest wheelbase of 3,009 mm. Legroom (1,098 mm) and shoulder room (1,500 mm) in back are also both best in class. The trunk has 535 liters of space, with room for four golf bags and an extra four small bags. The trunk opens hydraulically, without hinges, making it much easier to load and unload than ordinary car trunks.

VIP Service for Veritas Customers

GM Daewoo will provide special VIP service to all Veritas customers, including a five-year/100,000-kilometer warranty for the powertrain and three-year/60,000-kilometer warranty for replacement items such as engine oil, the air filter and bacteria filter. GM Daewoo will also offer free car delivery service following maintenance service. During maintenance, Veritas owners will be provided a courtesy vehicle free of charge. In addition, specially trained professionals will offer individualized service to all Veritas customers and preferential service at GM Daewoo inspection centers.

The Veritas comes in three trim levels to meet different needs: Deluxe, Premium and Luxury. The models are priced at KRW 46,500,000 for the Deluxe, KRW 53,800,000 for the Premium and KRW 57,800,000 for the Luxury.

The Veritas will be on display at GM Daewoo Theme Lounges in Seoul Station and the Yongsan KTX Station in the months of September and October. The Veritas will also be shown at the Yeoju outlet market and luxury hotels in downtown Seoul, as well as at GM Daewoo dealerships nationwide. A series of interactive marketing promotions such as a test-drive event for VIP customers is planned.

COLOGNE : September 5, 2008 - Bringing style and new levels of low-CO2 efficiency, Ford of Europe's most frugal car -- the new Fiesta ECOnetic -- heads the Fiesta range at this year's Paris Show.


Powered by a specially-calibrated version of the 90 PS 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi, combined with coated Diesel Particulate Filter, Ford's most economical Fiesta can travel 100 kilometres using just 3.7 litres of fuel, on the EC Combined Cycle. This impressive fuel economy is matched with a class-leading CO2 output of 98 grams per kilometre -- making Fiesta ECOnetic the lowest CO2 vehicle in both its segment and Ford's European range.

Compared to previous-generation Fiesta 1.6-litre TDCi, Fiesta ECOnetic will use
160 litres less fuel over 20.000 km, offering genuine savings in daily driving, at a time when saving fuel means saving even more money.

Extra-urban highway fuel economy is even better -- Fiesta ECOnetic requires just
3.2 litres to cover 100 kilometres. Yet this efficiency is not at the expense of driving quality or performance, with Fiesta ECOnetic reaching 0-100 km/h in 12.3 seconds and a top speed of 178 kph.

This is because Fiesta boasts the same attention to detail as earlier ECOnetic models, with improved aerodynamics, low rolling resistance tyres and enhanced lubrication to achieve best possible CO2 and fuel consumption. Lowered ride height and aerodynamic details such as wheel covers and wheel deflectors build on Fiesta's already streamlined drag co-efficient (Cd) of 0.33.
At the same time, low rolling resistance tyres in an economical 175/65 R14 profile, a longer final drive gear ratio and special lubricants drive efficient powertrain performance, especially in highway cruising. In conjunction with energy partner BP, Ford has developed low-viscosity transmission and low-friction engine oils for its ECOnetic models.

Such modifications create Fiesta ECOnetic's class-leading efficiency, without sacrificing the driving quality, style or practicality of the core Fiesta range.

It is not just the ECOnetic version of new Fiesta that benefits from Ford of Europe's sustainability efforts -- all new Fiestas feature Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS), using far less fuel and engine power than a standard hydraulic power assist system, without compromising driving dynamics or steering feedback.

Extensive use of high strength steels and a focus on weight saving has also reduced the mass of new Fiesta by 40 kilogrammes versus the previous model, despite improved safety equipment and sound insulation.

Production powered by renewable sources
Sustainability has influenced not only new Fiesta's development, but also the facilities behind its manufacture. Ford's Dagenham Diesel Centre in Britain produces Duratorq TDCi engines for new Fiesta and derives all its electricity from renewable sources, with two dedicated wind turbines and plans for a third.

Ford is also sourcing renewable electricity to cover the full electric power demand of its Fiesta manufacturing and engineering facilities in Cologne, Germany. Through this initiative, the company will reduce its CO2 emissions by 190,000 tonnes per year.

New Fiesta ECOnetic will be on sale across Europe later this year and completes an initial trilogy of production models in the company's European vehicle range that also includes a 139 g/km Ford Mondeo ECOnetic and a 115 g/km Ford Focus ECOnetic.

The new Ka retains all of the qualities which made the Ka brand so popular -- compact size, great looks, lively dynamics and fun personality -- but presents them in a fresh new package.

With its striking interior and exterior design, outstanding dynamics and unique character, the Ford Ka sets a new standard for affordable small cars. Practical, safe, cheap to run, and friendly to the environment, this bold new model starts a new chapter of the Ka success story.
Production of the new Ford Ka commences in the autumn of 2008, and the vehicle will go on sale in most major European markets in late 2008/early 2009.
Stylish and fashionable
With the introduction of new Ka, Ford has extended its kinetic design language to the smallest car range.

The new vehicle has a stylish, fashionable appearance which combines Ford's latest design thinking with some of the youthful and cheeky spirit which made the original Ka so popular.

Designed for a young target audience who enjoy making a bold statement in their choice of car, the new Ka has the same compact proportions as its predecessor, but with a chunky and expressive style all of its own.

A number of visual cues from the outgoing car ensure that the new design is recognisably a Ka, yet it has the dynamic qualities which mark it out as a member of the kinetic design family.

Bold, colourful interior
The interior of the new Ka has a stylish, dynamic design, just like the exterior. The same kinetic design philosophy used to shape the body is applied inside the vehicle, ensuring that the fresh and modern character of the external design is matched by the interior style.

Bold contrasts and expressive colours have been deliberately chosen to reflect the more adventurous tastes of the typical Ka customer. These are combined with some imaginative design details to give the interior a fashionable and fun personality which is quite unique in the B-car segment.

The new Ka is practical too, with generous interior space and comfortable accommodation for four adults and their belongings. The high seating position, carefully placed controls and excellent visibility make the Ka a pleasure to drive for drivers of all ages.

Exciting driving dynamics
The original Ka was renowned for its go-kart like handling, and the new Ka has been designed to be just as fun and rewarding to drive, with the most exciting driving dynamics of any small car.

Ford's own chassis engineering experts have tuned the suspension, steering, and chassis, with the same meticulous attention to detail which has made Ford a leader in vehicle dynamics.

Final testing was conducted using a combination of public roads, proving grounds and race tracks -- including the legendary Nu"rburgring in Germany.

During the engineering process, information was exchanged with the team developing the new Fiesta, and certain components, such as the tyres, were jointly developed for both models.

Economical and environmentally friendly
The affordable new Ford Ka is designed to be both cheap to run and kind to the environment. It uses two economical, low emission engines: a 1.2-litre 69 PS Duratec petrol engine and, for the first time on Ka, a 1.3-litre 75 PS Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel.

Both petrol and diesel models are available with sub-120g/km CO2 emissions.

The 1.2-litre petrol model, which is expected to be the largest seller in the new range, has cut fuel consumption by 21 per cent compared to the previous 1.3-litre Ka.

The diesel model -- available on the Ka for the first time -- improves economy still further, achieving a combined fuel consumption of 4.2 litres/100km.

Safe and secure
The new Ka may be a small vehicle, but it has been engineered to meet Ford's strict
in-house safety design guidelines.
At the heart of the vehicle is the bodyshell, which has been developed to provide an incredibly strong, stable crash structure to protect passengers in case of an accident.

The bodyshell is combined with an Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which integrates airbags, restraint systems and seating technologies to provide a highly effective occupant safety system.

Ka choice
The new Ford Ka is available in two series -- Ambiente and Titanium -- each offering an outstanding combination of value and equipment. To complement these two models, there are a number of carefully tailored option packs to provide customers with maximum choice when specifying their vehicle.

Specify the Bluetooth-enabled Connectivity Kit, and the Ka comes equipped with Bluetooth? mobile phone connectivity, a USB port to play music files through the sound system and steering wheel controls.

Combine this with one of the superb six-speaker CD sound systems, and the new Ka provides all the necessary equipment to keep its passengers connected and entertained.

Unique among vehicles in the small-car segment, the new Ka also offers heated windscreen and heated seats, invaluable for safe and comfortable driving in cold winter conditions.

Development and production
The new Ford Ka has been developed as part of a common project with Fiat. The vehicle is produced at the modern Fiat manufacturing plant in Tychy, Poland, sharing the production line with the Fiat 500 model.

Ka history
The original Ford Ka was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1996. It was immediately acclaimed for its exciting "New Edge" styling and for bringing new levels of driving enjoyment to the class.

Sales soon took off across Europe, and the Ka gained the popularity which has stayed with it throughout its lifetime, with a total of over 1,460,000 vehicles produced. In the UK alone, the Ka has found 500,000 customers, and has been segment leader since 2000.

New derivatives, such as the exciting StreetKa and SportKa models expanded the Ka family, and helped to broaden and reinforce the model's appeal.

Subaru Forester 2.0D

TOKYO : September 5, 2008 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, today announced that it will exhibit its Forester and Impreza models equipped with Subaru Boxer Diesel at the Mondiale de l'Automobile (Paris Motor Show), which will open its doors to the public from October 4 through 19, 2008 (press days on October 2 and 3). The Forester 2.0D and Impreza 2.0D models will be on sale in Europe after this autumn. In addition to the Legacy and Outback models, already available with the Boxer Diesel, Subaru has strengthened its diesel model lineup to meet a wider array of customers' needs in the European market. TOKYO/ZAVENTEM, Belgium : September 4, 2008 - TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA (TME), which manages TMC-related European manufacturing and engineering operations, plans to expand its production engineering and research and development base in Europe to better meet the needs of European customers.


The expansion of the TME Technical Centre in Zaventem, Belgium, includes construction of TME's first test track for development purposes in Europe and enhancement of facilities to assess vibration, noise, safety and environmental impact levels of vehicles designed for the European market. Planned to begin in 2009 and to be completed in around 2010, the expansion will be made possible through the investment of 80 million euro. Overall, the TME Technical Centre plans to create positions for 250 new staff.

With an aim to strengthen its product development in Europe, TMC has been expanding its research and development efforts there since 2004, and in 2006, set up research facilities to conduct experiments to develop vehicle upper bodies* for Toyota models manufactured in Europe and to evaluate the adaptability of diesel engines to vehicles sold in the European market. This most-recent expansion will serve to further localize technological development in Europe.

With Japan as the center, TMC has established research and development bases in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia to carry out vehicle and parts design, planning and evaluation. TMC intends to continue to strive to develop and offer products that suit regional conditions and meet the needs of customers all over the world.

Honda Insight Concept

TORRANCE, Calif. : September 4, 2008 - Honda will reveal a concept version of its new small hybrid vehicle, to be named Insight, at the 2008 Paris International Auto Show, October 2, the company announced today. The new Insight Concept shares styling cues with the Honda FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle and will provide an early look at the highly-anticipated five-passenger hybrid vehicle.


Going on sale in the U.S. next spring, the all-new purpose-built Insight will come to market at a price significantly below hybrids available today. From this unique position in the marketplace, the Insight will advance the affordability and accessibility of hybrid technology to a new generation of buyers.

The original Honda Insight was introduced in December 1999 as America's first gas-electric hybrid car. The first vehicle to break the 70-mpg fuel economy barrier, Insight was designed from the ground up to demonstrate the ultimate potential for fuel-economy in a two-seater subcompact automobile.

A leader in the development of cleaner, more fuel-efficient mobility products, Honda introduced the first low-emission gasoline vehicles; America's first gas-electric hybrid car and the world's first EPA-certified hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, the FCX. Hyundai i20

SEOUL : September 3, 2008 - With its effortless style, sophistication and glamour, Paris seems the natural setting for Hyundai to showcase a new generation of cars. In the city where too much is never enough, it's only fitting that Hyundai should reveal no fewer than five new models.


Alongside the new i20 -- which will make its world premiere on 2nd October -- Hyundai will also debut a low-emissions i20 i-blue concept, a luxurious seven-seat ix55 sports utility vehicle and a concept Santa Fe equipped with a petrol-electric hybrid. Hyundai's dramatic Genesis Coupe show car will be present and the acclaimed Genesis saloon will be making its European debut.

All-new i20
Set to be launched early 2009, the new i20 will be a key addition to Hyundai's highly successful i-range. Designed at Hyundai's European Design Centre in Russelsheim, Germany, the stylish new five-door has a longer wheelbase than the existing Getz, and is both bigger inside and more dynamic in appearance.

In keeping with the i10 and i30, the i20 features Hyundai's trademark chrome-topped grille and teardrop headlamps at the front, while striking stacked rear light clusters give the rear end a distinctive look. And, as you would expect from Hyundai, the cleverly-packaged interior boasts generous levels of standard equipment.

Based on the all-new i20, Hyundai's latest i-blue car concept incorporates a number of modifications, further enhancing the standard model's impressive environmental credentials. These improvements are achieved without compromising performance, reliability or driver satisfaction.

Key modifications to deliver a significant reduction in CO2emissions and fuel consumption include: full-length under floor covers, a 15 millimetre reduction in ground clearance, changes to the front and rear aerodynamics, low rolling resistance tyres and high performance, low friction engine oil.

The i20 i-blue concept is fitted with Hyundai's all new state-of-the-art 1.4 CRDi diesel engine, which produces 90PS and generates 220Nm of torque. To further improve economy, it drives through a six-speed manual gearbox -- instead of the car's usual five-speed unit. With a CO2 output of just 99g/km and a fuel consumption figure of 68mpg, the i20 blue concept sets new standards for the sector.

2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Further demonstrating Hyundai's commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, the Santa Fe Petrol-Electric Hybrid concept maintains the overall design of the existing Santa Fe, yet is an entirely different vehicle under the skin.

Hyundai engineers have developed a new hybrid drive system, which mates the current 2.4-litre petrol engine to a six-speed automatic transmission and a 30kW electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries. The end result CO2 emissions of just 148g/km and a fuel consumption figure of 44mpg.

Although not destined for British shores, Hyundai's seven seat iX55 sports utility vehicle will also make its debut in production-ready form at Paris. The new X-TRAIL 20GT has met Japan's stringent "Post New Long-term Regulations"*1 -- the first vehicle in the world to do so*2.

The X-TRAIL 20GT achieves high fuel-efficiency of 15.2km/L under Japan's 10-15 test mode operation, representing an increase of approximately 30% in fuel economy over a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with the same power output. In addition to its low fuel consumption, the X-TRAIL's new "M9R" clean diesel engine is more economical to operate, due to the lower price of diesel versus standard gasoline in the Japan market.

In addition to complying with Japan's stringent "Post New Long-term Regulations" emission standards which stresses high environmental performance, the new M9R clean diesel engine also achieves high levels of driving performance demanded by X-TRAIL owners.

Chrysler ecoVoyager Concept

LOS ANGELES : September 2, 2008 - Chrysler LLC will be showing dealers later this month prototypes of three electric cars that can be produced, says Jim Press, co-president of Chrysler


"We are making substantial progress on electrification of our vehicles," he said here Tuesday during a Motor Press Guild luncheon.

Chrysler is focusing on developing hybrid electric plug-in vehicles with a range of 300 miles, Press said. "Fuel cells are in the future, but probably more in my kids' future than my own," he said.

The key issue, he said, is to develop new platforms with electrification in mind.

Chrysler can move forward with advanced products for electrification with or without partners, Press said. All of Daimler AG's technology remains available to Chrysler, he added. Daimler continues to own a minority 20 percent stake in Chrysler more than a year after selling its majority stake to Cerberus Capital Management LP.

Chrysler is working with "a few" battery suppliers, both in the United States and overseas. The automaker just launched the 2009 Dodge Ram pickup, beating the new Ford F150 to market. Ford Motor Co. announced in June that it was delaying the launch of the 2009 F-150 pickup because of a glut of unsold 2008 models.

Press said that he figured the earlier launch would give Chrysler an advantage over Ford "for a little while." He added, "I'll take it."

He defended continued production of the mid-sized Dakota pickup. Dakota sales fell by 40.4 percent during the first half of the year compared with the first half of 2007.

The Dakota has no additional costs for research and development, says Press, "so every time we sell one, there is some sunshine."

The vehicle will evolve into something "more relevant" for future markets, he says.

"We are looking at different segment for lifestyle trucks. Meanwhile, (the Dakota) is selling okay, we will continue production," Press said.

Press left Toyota Motor Corp. one year ago to help run Chrysler, which has cut thousands of jobs, discontinued models, and closed plants since his arrival. Chrysler will not generate positive cash flow in 2008, he said.

But it will launch eight all-new products in 2010, Press said.

He predicted the market would start recovering by 2010.

Said Press: "The biggest issue for the auto market today is getting adequate credit, not $4.00 a gallon gas."

MUMBAI/KOLKATA : September 2, 2008 - India's Tata Motors Ltd (TAMO.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said violent protests had forced it to suspend all work at a plant in eastern India where it planned to make the Nano - billed as the world's cheapest car - and consider alternative sites.


The automaker said it canceled work at the site in Singur, an hour's drive from West Bengal capital Kolkata, for the past five days due to threats from protesters, who have been led by a regional opposition party.

The dispute reflects a larger standoff between industry in India and farmers unwilling to part with land in a country where two-thirds of the billion-plus population depend on agriculture.

"This decision was taken in order to ensure the safety of its employees and contract labor, who have continued to be violently obstructed from reporting to work," the company said in a statement.

The suspension came just as protesters agreed to talks over land seizures for the project, which analysts said stepped up pressure on the protesters to resolve the dispute.

The prospect of talks had raised hopes that the 100,000 rupee ($2,250) car could roll out on time in October to coincide with the Indian festive season.

"I am wondering how Tata can make a statement when talks are on (to resolve the dispute)," said Partha Chattopadhayay, a leader of the Trinamool Congress party spearheading the protests. "I don't go by this statement. I have to wait."

Tata Motors said it was putting together a detailed plan for the relocation of the plant and machinery, and was evaluating options for manufacturing the Nano at other company facilities.

It said the project's partners, who had started work at their respective plants at the site, had also suspended work.

Chairman Ratan Tata said last month he was prepared to move the plant from West Bengal state despite having invested $350 million in the project because of the risks to employees from the protests.

The Nano project has been billed as key to the rejuvenation of industries in West Bengal, where the world's longest-serving democratically elected Communist government has changed tack after decades of focus on helping agriculture and poor farmers.

The state government urged the Trinamool Congress to work together to retain the Nano plant in the state.

"It is very unfortunate. It is a very sad day," said Nirupam Sen, West Bengal industry minister. "I could never imagine the opposition would be so irresponsible."

The unveiling in January of the snub-nosed Nano was hailed by the state's ruling Communists, but protests have since gathered steam.

Trouble began after the government took over 1,000 acres of farmland for the factory. The government offered compensation, but some farmers with smaller land holdings have refused compensation, demanding that land be given back to them.

The disputed land measures about 400 acres.

The Trinamool has come under pressure to find a way out of the stand-off after industry lobbies and analysts warned the protests could scare away investors.

"I think this could create pressure on those opposing the project," said Abhirup Sarkar, a Kolkata-based economist and social commentator.

Eager to resolve an issue threatening its industry-friendly image, the state government has offered to discuss fresh compensation packages.

Subaru owners and thousands more fans have celebrated the life of Colin McRae

BANBURY : September 2, 2008 - More than 1000 Subaru owners and thousands more fans have celebrated the life of Colin McRae this weekend.


A convoy, which at its peak stretched 30 miles with an estimated 1100 Subaru cars, left Colin’s home town of Lanark on Saturday morning, led by his father Jimmy McRae. Nine hours and 300 miles later, it arrived at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury, having been cheered along the way by thousands of fans who stood on every available motorway bridge on route.

“Literally every bridge had people waving and cheering us along with many hanging the Saltire from the railings.” said Grant Hendry, who led the McRae Gathering convoy. “It turned what was an already memorable event into a truly amazing and emotional occasion.”

The convoy re-gathered at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury on Sunday morning, before being led up the M40 by Colin McRae’s original 1996 Impreza rally car. In a fitting finale to the event, a sign almost half a mile long and made up of 1086 Subarus spelt out COLIN MCRAE and the Scottish Saltire in a new official Guinness World Record – smashing the previous record by more than 800 cars. The cars then broke a second Guinness World Record by creating the largest parade of cars as they left the Prodrive test track.

It is estimated that the event has raised nearly £40,000 for the McRae charities.

Stephen Odell

GOTHENBURG : September 2, 2008 - Ford Motor Company today announced the appointment of Stephen Odell as president and chief executive officer of Volvo Car Corporation, replacing Fredrik Arp, who has decided to leave the company.


Effective Oct. 1, Odell, 53, will be responsible for Volvo's global operations out of its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, and lead the company's drive toward sustained profitability through continued restructuring and the accelerated development of high-quality, fuel-efficient and safe vehicles in the premium end of the market.

Odell, who has played a key role in Ford of Europe's resurgence as its chief operating officer, will report to Lewis Booth, executive vice president of Ford Motor Company and chairman of Volvo Car Corporation, who will continue to oversee the strategic direction of Volvo.

"Stephen Odell brings to Volvo a wealth of experience of strong leadership in the automotive industry," said Alan Mulally, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company. "Given his strong track record at Ford, Jaguar and Mazda, the time is now right for Stephen to take up this new challenge at Volvo. 2009 KIA Soul

SEOUL, Korea : September 2, 2008 - Kia's sharply-stylish new segment-busting Kia Soul is set to win over minds as well as hearts at the Paris Salon de l'Automobile in October 2008 with confirmation that the urban crossover will come to Europe next year with a choice of fuel-efficient petrol and diesel engines.


Kia Soul will go on sale in mainland Europe next February with a choice 126 ps diesel and petrol engines based on the DOHC engines already fitted to the hugely successful, European-built, Kia cee'd - with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, depending on model. Right-hand drive production is due to start in March 2009.

The diesel engine generates 126 ps at 4,000 rpm and maximum torque of 255 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The all-aluminium petrol engine also produces 126 ps at 6,300 rpm and 156 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm.

New Proton Gen-2 LPG ecologic

BRISTOL : September 1, 2008 - Proton has expanded its GEN-2 range with the addition of two dual fuel models able to run on either petrol or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).


At around 58p per litre, LPG has become an increasingly attractive alternative following the huge rise in the cost of petrol and diesel, but to convert your car to run on LPG currently costs between £1,500-£2,000. However, there’s finally some good news for the motorist in Proton’s new ecoLogic GEN-2. At exactly the same price as its petrol equivalent, Proton’s new ecologic range offers customers the rare chance to start saving money immediately. Even allowing for the slightly increased fuel consumption when running on LPG, customers can save around 40% on their fuel costs (Autogas Ltd). Based on an average annual mileage of 10,000 miles and the prices of petrol and LPG at £1.12 and 58p respectively (source: Fleet News 20/08/08), this is an annual saving of over £500.

Not only is Proton offering a full factory-fitted LPG conversion at no additional cost to the customer, ecoLogic owners will also benefit from 3 year/60,000 miles total vehicle warranty and 3 years RAC cover.

LPG is not a new concept and is used to run over 140,000 vehicles in the UK currently and 11 million worldwide. Humberside Police have been running LPG-converted Proton vehicles for over 10 years, and with just over 300 on their current fleet, have saved up to £300,000 on fuel costs per year. Proton ecoLogic owners won’t miss out later either, with residual values on LPG dual fuel vehicles recently found to be up to 7.4% better than their petrol equivalent (Fleet News).

It’s becoming increasingly easier to fill up on LPG, with over 1,400 refuelling sites around the UK, including motorway service stations and at major supermarkets.

Not only is the Proton ecoLogic GEN-2 more economical to run, but it has been proved to be more eco-friendly than petrol and diesel. Typically, LPG produces less carbon monoxide, particulates and nitrous oxides than other fuel sources, plus a 15-20% reduction in carbon dioxide compared to petrol. Even the production of LPG is environmentally friendly; it’s a by-product of the extraction and refining of crude oil, which also means there’s a plentiful supply in the UK.

There’s nothing complicated about dual fuel operation, the GEN-2 ecoLogic starts on petrol and then switches to LPG when it’s most efficient to do so, usually after about 20 seconds. Any very slight differences in performance will go unnoticed and the only visible addition to the interior is a switch on the centre console that shows the fuel level. There is a second filler cap next to the petrol cap, which is matched to the exact colour of the car. Vietnam's Honda Motocycle plant

VIETNAM - September 1, 2008: Honda Vietnam formally held an Opening ceremony for its second motorcycle plant in Vinh Phuc province.


The second factory is 300,000 square meters in area and is located right beside first factory in Vinh Phuc province. Additional facilities include test course, emission laboratories, welfares for associates, waste water treatment facilities, etc. With total investment capital of USD 65 million, the plant producing mainly scooters and high – class gear models will come into mass production at the end of August. With production capacity of 500,000 units per year in addition to the 1 million units at the first plant, Honda Vietnam’s total yearly output reaches 1.5 million units. This is the proof for Honda Vietnam’s effort to more satisfy increasing and diversified demand of Vietnamese customers.

“Environmental and human friendliness” are the key features of the second plant. The factory has been built depending on the most harmonious and reasonable connection between natural energy resources including: Wind, Light, and Water.

World premiere for Toyota's third generation flagship model; production-ready iQ and Urban Cruiser also on display

New Avensis is the third generation of the model to be built at the Burnaston plant in Derbyshire. LUTON : Vauxhall has launched its first Astra ecoFLEX with a 1.7 turbo-diesel engine producing C02 emissions of just 119g/km and fuel consumption of 62.8mpg on the combined cycle.


The new model, which will be available in Hatch, Sport Hatch and estate guises, falls in to the lowest BIK tax band for company car drivers, while private buyers will only pay ?35 per year in Vehicle Excise Duty thanks to its band B credentials.

But the Astra 1.7 CDTi ecoFLEX has not sacrificed driver involvement to go green. Its engine produces 110PS, an increase of 10PS over the existing Astra 1.7 CDTi, and 260Nm of torque at 2000rpm, enough to power the ecoFLEX to a top speed of 117mph.

Vauxhall's engineers have achieved extra efficiency from the Astra's 1.7 CDTi drivetrain by fitting a taller axle ratio, optimising the engine management system and reducing the engine's idle speed.

In addition, ecoFLEX's kerbweight has been reduced by 30kgs, while aerodynamics have been improved by lowering the suspension, modifying the front air intakes and fitting a drag-reducing lower engine compartment panel. Engineers also reduced the power steering pump's idle speed and fitted low rolling-resistance, 15-inch tyres (16-inch optional).

Hans Demant, GME's Engineering Vice President, summed up Vauxhall's commitment to further reducing fuel consumption and emissions in cars with conventional internal combustion engines: "At General Motors Europe, environmental consciousness means offering clever technological innovations at affordable prices, making them accessible to as many customers as possible. The Astra ecoFLEX is the newest example of our strategy and directly addresses the needs of buyers in high-volume sectors."

Five door Hatch versions of the Astra ecoFLEX are on sale now at a starting price for the Life (a/c) model of ?16,340. Prices and availability of the Sport Hatch and estate models are still to be announced.

Loeb wins Rally New Zealand!

AUCKLAND, New Zealand : August 31, 2008 - Sebastien Loeb took his 44th WRC victory this afternoon, winning Rally New Zealand by 17.5sec from his Citroen Total team-mate Dani Sordo who was second.


It was the dream result for Loeb and his team after a shaky start to the day, when Loeb dropped to fourth after a spin on the opening stage. At Sunday’s midpoint it looked like BP Ford Abu Dhabi drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala had the top two positions locked out, but on the penultimate stage the Ford team’s challenge crumbled, with Latvala retiring and Hirvonen losing 50 seconds.

Twelve months ago Loeb missed out on victory in New Zealand by 0.3sec - the slimmest losing margin in WRC history. But this year he completed the Mystery Creek Super Special with a comfortable lead to take his second New Zealand win. But at the finish Loeb said he was still surprised by how the day had turned out.

“This morning I had the spin and just wasn’t able to make up the gap to Mikko - I thought it was over and we’d lost the chance,” said Loeb “But then it all changed and we were leading again. But this was really a difficult rally, changing all the time, with some strategy coming in too. I needed to win for sure, and that’s very nice, but I’m not happy for what happened to Mikko because he was doing really well and it was a good battle. But okay; it’s a race and these things happen sometimes. ”

A maximum 10 points for Loeb moved him eight points clear at the top of the drivers' championship with four events remaining. Another eight points from Sordo eased Citroen further ahead in the manufacturers’ series too, twenty points clear of their nearest rivals Ford. “The result today was very important for the manufacturers’ championship but also for me for me in the drivers’ series,” said Sordo. “I’m also very happy because on gravel I’m getting quicker and quicker. I feel I’m making real progress.”

A desolate Hirvonen brought his bumper-less Focus across the finish line to claim the final podium place, 24sec adrift of Sordo’s time. “I was really confident before Whaanga Coast that we were going to win this rally but what could we do? - we had a slow puncture than that dropped us to third,” he said. “That’s how it is now. I’m not going to let this knock my confidence. I know we can win rallies. The season isn’t over yet so we just have to go flat out again on the next rallies.”

Latvala’s retirement meant Petter Solberg finished fourth for the Subaru World Rally Team. “I never thought I could get fourth after being tenth on the first day,” said Solberg. “But while I’m happy about the result, the thing is we are still not up there; we want to win, not get fourth. I’m sorry, but we’re not here for fun. We have to improve the speed.”

Urmo Aava was fifth, on an event which was a late addition to his 2008 programme with the PH sport Citroen team. “Coming here was a bonus and I’m happy we’ve made eth best use of it, he said. “I think we had a good speed - especially on Saturday - and we got a good position and some good points.”

Per-Gunnar Andersson and Toni Gardemeister were sixth and seventh respectively; recording the best ever WRC finish for the Suzuki World Rally Team. “It’s a great result for Suzuki,” said Andersson. “We’ve struggled with the handling a little bit, but we’ve shown good reliability here. We’ll take some good points in the championships and that makes the rest of the season easier.”

“It’s been a good weekend,” added Gardemeister. “Apart from our brake problem on Saturday the car has worked very well.”

Federico Villagra finished eighth, taking the last drivers’ championship point in his Munchi’s team Ford Focus RS. “It’s been a tough rally,” he said. “I struggled a lot with my braking throughout, but it’s a good result in the end.”

But the man with the biggest grin at the finish line was Villagra’s Munchi’s team-mate Henning Solberg. The Norwegian dropped to 45th on the first day as a result of power steering failure. But after a remarkable fight back, during which he won seven stages, Solberg completed the rally ninth and claimed the last championship point for his team.

“We’ve taken a good step this weekend, I must say,” he said. “I’ve worked hard with myself since Finland and here I had the opportunity to relax and find my own rhythm. I have to say I’m very happy with ninth.”

Last week, Honda announced the new 2009 Honda Civic line-up with features and specification, and followed with new Honda Civic coupe'.


The new Honda Civic Coupe' are based on the Civic SI Concept and be offered in DX, LX, EX, EX-L and Si trim levels and standard trim will be offered with 140-horsepower 1.8-liter SOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission.

The new Honda Civic Coupe Si serve as the performance cornerstone for the Civic line-up with a 197-horsepower, 16-valve, DOHC 2.0 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine mated to a close-ratio, 6-speed manual transmission. A helical-type, limited-slip differential enhances traction in high-performance driving situations. The Civic Si sport suspension adds firm spring, damper and stabilizer bar tuning along with exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels and high-performance tires. Exclusive exterior features include a rear wing spoiler (low profile on the sedan) and Si emblems. The sports-oriented interior adds firmly-bolstered, performance-oriented seats with red fabric stitching and synthetic suede trim. Standard fog lights and a restyled alloy wheel design are new for 2009.
