BANGKOK : August 22, 2008 - While domestic new vehicle sales in Thailand dropped by 12.5% year-on-year to 44,772 units in July 2008, automotive exports posted a significant rise of 36.4% compared with July 2007.

The number of vehicles exported last month reached 71,232 units, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports, citing the Federation of Thai Industries' automobile section. This accounted for more than half of the automotive industry's total output last month of 121,672 vehicles.

The total value of automotive exports from Thailand reached Baht 32.6bn (US$960.86m) last month. For the first seven months of 2008, this figure stood at Baht 303.25bn, one-third more than the amount recorded in the corresponding seven-month period of 2007.

"We achieved our sales target in July despite a steep rise in oil prices last month. As oil prices have slightly dropped since, exports are likely to be good next month," AFP quotes Federation spokesman Surapong Paisitpatanapong as saying.

Toyota Motor Thailand vice president Vutigorn Suriyachantananont had earlier said that he expects domestic sales to pick up as well in August, following the reduction in fuel prices.

DETROIT : August 21, 2008 - The first photographs of Chevrolet's all-new Cruze sedan - making its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October - reveal a dynamic four-door coupe that proves exciting design and value are not mutually exclusive.


On sale beginning in Europe from March next year, Cruze features a dramatic re-interpretation of the traditional sedan featuring Chevrolet's new global design language that is becoming a signature on all new products carrying the gold bowtie.

Cruze's arching roof-line, extending from the steeply raked windshield to its sloping rear pillars and short rear deck, brings coupe-like proportions to a compact sedan.

Wider and longer than most of its competitors, Cruze has a purposeful stance with its wheels located at the outer edges of the tautly drawn bodywork. Noticeably tight body panel fits and a restrained use of exterior trim add to a high quality, 'hewn from solid' appearance.


Cruze's dramatic profile is matched by bold front styling, with large headlamp housings that wrap around the front corners and sweep up, arrow-like, into the fenders and sculpted hood. Other distinct design themes include a concave shoulder line, the two-tier grille and a "wheels-out/body-in" stance. Inside, Cruze features a 'twin cockpit' design motif, first introduced in the iconic Corvette sports car.

"Our goal in designing Cruze was to be bold, not evolutionary," says chief designer Taewan Kim. "We wanted to take a big step forward, making a strong design statement for Chevrolet products around the world."

Visitors to the Paris show will see how Chevrolet's progressive design is also reflected in the quality of Cruze's interior. The use of grained surfaces, soft-touch materials and low gloss trim panels ensures a quality ambience that echoes the clean, harmonious design of the exterior.


At launch in Europe, Cruze will be available with 16-valve, 1.6-liter (112 hp/82 kW) and 1.8-liter (140 hp/103 kW) gasoline engines featuring variable valve timing (VVT) on both inlet and exhaust sides, giving more power as well as better fuel economy and lower emissions. A new 2.0-liter turbo diesel, developing 150 hp/ 110 kW and 320 Nm of torque adds power with even greater frugality. Five-speed manual gearboxes and an all-new automatic transmission, Chevrolet's first six-speed application in the compact segment, complete the powertrain menu.

SHANGHAI - Fiat has agreed to build a 1.8 billion yuan ($263 million) engine plant in southwestern China's Chongqing municipality with annual capacity of 100,000 units, Chongqing's economic planning agency said.


A memorandum of understanding signed by the Italian carmaker called for 70 percent of the light diesel engines made at the facility to be exported, the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission said in a statement on its Web site (http://wfg.cq.gov.cn).

It did not say when the plant would start operation.

Fiat's truck division Iveco has a joint venture with SAIC Motor in Chongqing that makes heavy-duty trucks.

The Italian automaker has made little headway in the world's second-largest auto market, where General Motors and Volkswagen have been reaping hefty profits.

Late last year, Fiat pulled out of a money-losing car venture with Nanjing Automobile after the firm merged with SAIC Motor.

It is planning to boost its position by launching sales of imported sedans in the country for the first time.

Fiat's Bravo, Linea and Grande Punto sedans will be available through about 30 dealerships nationwide later this week, a company executive told Reuters, but declined to give a sales target.

GUANGZHOU, China : August 20, 2008 - Nissan will soon start exporting passenger vehicles from China to overseas markets.


The shipment, to be made to Egypt, will include Livina minivans and Bluebird Sylphy sedans.

"The plan is going well and the first batch of cars will be exported later this month or next month," says an executive from Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company._

Dongfeng Nissan is a 50:50 joint venture between Nissan and China's Dongfeng Motor. The cars for export are built by the joint venture.

Currently, Dongfeng Nissan produces the Bluebird Sylphy sedans, the Livina and Geniss minivans, the Qashqai crossover and Tiida compact car in its plant in the south China city of Guangzhou.

It also makes the Teana sedans in its plant in the central China city of Xiangfan.

All of these cars are left-hand-drive models.

A spokeswoman of Nissan (China) Investment Co. confirms the export plan. She adds Nissan plans to export 500 units of Livina minivan and 400 units of Bluebird Sylphy sedans by the end of this year. All of the cars will be sold in Egypt through Nissan's local distribution network.

The cars to be exported are the same as those currently being sold in China.

The five-seat Livina being sold in China now is fitted with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission, with a starting price of 79,800 yuan ($11,650) per unit.

The Bluebird Sylphy carries a 1.6- or 2.0 engine and a four-speed automatic or continuous variable transmission, with a starting price of about 140,000 yuan ($20,440) per unit.

In 2006, Dongfeng Nissan sold 1,000 units of the Tiida compact cars to the African country of Angola.

But Nissan China's spokeswoman says the 2006 shipment was not an export from Nissan. It was Dongfeng Nissan selling the cars to a Hong Kong registered trading company and the Hong Kong company then sold the cars to Angola, she says.

Nissan made 281,520 units of passenger vehicles in China last year, including 41,341 units of the Livina and 57,182 units of the Bluebird Slyphy, according to Automotive Resources Asia, a unit of J.D. Power and Associates.

Pajero Sport is powered by an intercooler-turbocharged 4M41-type 3.2-liter diesel unit using a vibration- and noise-reducing common rail direct injection system. The power unit produces maxima of 120 kW (163 PS) / 3500 rpm and 343 Nm (35.0 kg-m) / 2000 rpm.
Common rail fuel injection system
The common rail direct fuel injection system uses a tube that branches to supply ECU-controlled injector valves which each feed fuel into individual cylinders. The extremely high injection pressures used ensure very high combustion efficiency, thereby reducing NOx emissions and the noise and vibration typically associated with traditional diesel engines.
(4) Transmission and driveline
Pajero Sport comes with a 4-speed Sport Mode automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual gearbox. The model uses Mitsubishi Motors' All Wheel Control-inspired Super Select 4WD driveline, which enjoys high acclaim for its reliability and go-anywhere capability. The system feeds maximum drive torque to the wheels with the most grip, for competence on all road surfaces. Pajero Sport is available with an optional rear differential lock that eliminates the speed differential between the rear wheels to help the driver extract his vehicle when bogged down.
(5) Body
Pajero Sport's body sits on a new ladder-frame chassis that realizes very high levels of body strength and durability while the use of impact-energy absorbing deformation beads in the frontal frame sections and other safety-enhancing elements also improve crashworthiness. Bending and torsional rigidity in the new ladder-frame are 100% and 50% (respectively) higher than before, significantly reducing vibration transmitted to the body. The stiffer frame also improves vehicle's reliability in off-road use as well as improving handling and ride comfort when driving on tarmac.
(6) Suspension, wheels and tires
With a double-wishbone coil spring configuration at the front and a 3-link coil spring arrangement at the rear, Pajero Sport's suspension delivers well-mannered stability and handling characteristics when on tarmac together with maximum tire/surface contact when driving off-road. Pajero Sport is offered with a choice of two sizes of tire: 265/65R 17 (larger) or 265/70R 16.
(7) Brakes
16-inch ventilated disc front brakes deliver sure-footed stopping power and accurate brake feel. The rear wheels use 11.6-inch leading trailing drum brakes.
(8) Utility and interior equipment
The front seatbacks recline fully to provide a flat surface together with the rear seats. The rear seats boast a generous 150 mm slide travel, allowing various configurations for occupant and luggage spaces: either maximum legroom, load carrying capacity or something in between.
Pajero Sport's soft seat upholstery is stain- and water-repellent. This plus its waterproof luggage space floor make it the ideal vehicle for outdoor leisure pursuits as well as for everyday use.
(9) Audio systems
Pajero Sport is available with an audio system that comprises a CD (MP3) player and AM/FM radio tuner, a 420 Watt amplifier and 8 speakers. The tweeters are mounted in specially designed doors enclosures and with punched metal mesh grilles deliver sound of outstanding clarity. Steering wheel-mounted controls allow the driver to operate his audio system without having to take his hand off the wheel.

2. MITSUBISHI Concept-RA

TORRANCE, Calif. : August 20,2008 - The Honda Civic is enhanced inside and out for 2009 with new exterior styling, colors and available tech-friendly features like Bluetooth? New for 2009, Vehicle Stability Assist^TM (VSA?), also known as electronic stability control, is now standard on the Civic EX-L and Civic Hybrid, in addition to the Civic Si. The entire line-up maintains a standard array of safety technologies including Advanced Compatibility Engineering^(TM) (ACE^(TM)) body structure; side curtain airbags; driver's and front passenger's side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); and dual-stage, dual-threshold driver's and front passenger's airbags (SRS). Active front seat head restraints are designed to help reduce the likelihood of neck injury in the event of a rear collision. Standard active safety features include an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution, front seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system, and a pedestrian injury mitigation design incorporated into the front exterior of the vehicle. Driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders and daytime running lights are also standard equipment.

Four engine and four transmission choices range from a 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic DX, DX-VP, LX, EX and EX-L), with either a 5-speed manual or an available 5-speed automatic transmission, to a 197-horsepower, 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic Si) with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Civic Hybrid is powered by a 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) gasoline-electric hybrid technology to enhance both fuel economy and performance, and is equipped with a continuously variable transmission. The Civic GX is powered by a dedicated natural gas version of the Civic's 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine - and is equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Both Civic Hybrid and Civic GX are classified as Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (AT-PZEV) by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The Civic GX is classified by the EPA as an Inherently Low Emissions Vehicle (ILEV).

Built on a high-rigidity unit-body platform, the Civic is designed to deliver precise, sharp and refined handling performance with its MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.

The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System², available on Civic EX, EX-L, Si and Hybrid models, has a 6.5-inch motorized display that opens and closes for access to the internal single-disc CD player, and a digital audio-card reader that can play MP3 and Windows Media?³ Audio (WMA) files from CompactFlash?⁴ cards (via a PC card adapter). The navigation system features more than 7 million points of interest and the voice activation can control the navigation menus and the audio system, along with entering city and street names. New for 2009, the system includes Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, a wireless telephone interface that works with Bluetooth-enabled mobile telephones for hands-free operation via steering wheel-mounted controls.

Auxiliary audio input jacks are standard equipment on Civic LX and above trim levels and allow for portable music device playback through the audio system. The Civic LX Coupe has a six-speaker 160-watt audio system with a CD player (four speakers for the LX sedan). All audio systems are capable of playing MP3 and WMA formatted CDs. Standard Speed-sensitive Volume Control (SVC) automatically adjusts the volume based on vehicle speed. Audio displays include CD/MP3 text readout, and all coupes (except for the DX) plus the Civic Si Sedan provide a customizable welcome screen (exclusively on models without the available navigation system).

Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe (1.8-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine)

Providing Civic buyers with two new sedan options, the 2009 line-up presents the all-new Civic DX-VP and Civic LX-S. The Civic DX-VP Sedan adds air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD audio system and an auxiliary input jack, in addition to the standard 140-horsepower 1.8-liter SOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission (5-speed automatic available), power windows, 15-inch steel wheels with covers and P195/65R15 tires.

Standard features on the Civic LX include air conditioning, cruise control, power door locks, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, P205/55R16 tires, keyless entry, a 4-speaker 160-watt AM/FM Audio System with CD player (MP3/WMA enabled), auxiliary audio input jack, center console with sliding armrest, progressive blue illumination instrument panel meters, auto up and down driver's power window, and a folding rear seat.

In addition to the well-equipped Civic LX features, the Civic LX-S Sedan upgrades to alloy wheels, exclusive sport-trimmed black cloth seats with synthetic suede bolsters and silver stitching, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a rear deck spoiler and a chrome exhaust finisher.

The Civic EX Sedan and Coupe include newly-designed alloy wheels, a 60/40 split folding rear seat, a one-touch power moonroof, ambient console lighting, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and the availability of the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Activation, which also includes XM Satellite Radio⁵. The Civic EX-L also comes standard with a leather-trimmed interior, heated seats and heated door mirrors to the Civic EX list of features. The Civic EX and EX-L Coupe exclusively feature a 7-speaker with subwoofer AM/FM audio system with CD player (MP3/WMA enabled). All Civic sedans receive a sporty three-spoke steering wheel for 2009, along with a rear chrome garnish bar above the license plate.

Civic Si Sedan and Coupe (2.0-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine)

The Civic Si Sedan and Coupe serve as the performance cornerstone for the Civic line-up with a 197-horsepower, 16-valve, DOHC 2.0 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine mated to a close-ratio, 6-speed manual transmission. A helical-type, limited-slip differential enhances traction in high-performance driving situations. The Civic Si sport suspension adds firm spring, damper and stabilizer bar tuning along with exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels and high-performance tires. Exclusive exterior features include a rear wing spoiler (low profile on the sedan) and Si emblems. The sports-oriented interior adds firmly-bolstered, performance-oriented seats with red fabric stitching and synthetic suede trim. Standard fog lights and a restyled alloy wheel design are new for 2009.

Civic Hybrid (1.3-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine with IMA)

The Civic Hybrid with advanced IMA hybrid technology achieves an EPA-estimated city/highway fuel economy of 40/45 miles per gallon6 and is updated for 2009 with the addition of Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and the availability of leather-trimmed interior which includes heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated side mirrors. The Civic Hybrid is certified by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) as Advanced-Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV). A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard equipment. The Civic Hybrid can deactivate all four of its cylinders and operate using only the electric motor in certain low-speed cruising situations. Power for the Civic Hybrid is provided by a 1.3-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a 15 kilowatt electric motor, producing a combined 110-horsepower @ 6000 rpm and combined 123 lb-ft. of torque @ 1000-2500 rpm.

Civic GX (1.8-liter i-VTEC engine, dedicated natural gas vehicle)

The ultra-clean Civic GX produces near zero emissions, enables owners to become eligible for a $4,000 federal tax credit and can refuel with an available, first-of-its-kind "Phill" home refueling appliance by FuelMaker Corporation (available through qualifying Honda dealers in California). The 2009 Civic GX is the only dedicated natural gas-powered passenger car available to retail customers in the United States and achieves an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy of 24/36 miles per gasoline-gallon equivalent 6. Currently, natural gas is approximately 35 percent less expensive than gasoline when purchased at a refueling station, and can be more than 50 percent cheaper than gasoline when supplied by a Phill home refueling appliance. The Civic GX is the only vehicle certified by the EPA to meet both Federal Tier 2-Bin 2 and Inherently Low Emission Vehicle (ILEV) zero evaporative emission certification standards. The Civic GX is available to consumers at qualified Honda dealers in the states of California and New York and is also available to fleet customers nationwide from qualified Honda dealers. An updated NGV logo is added for the new model year with a prominent display on the rear doors.

Manufacturing

The majority of Civics are produced and assembled in the United States and Canada using domestic and globally sourced parts. Civic Coupe and Civic Si models are solely produced and assembled at the Honda of Canada Manufacturing plant in Alliston, Ontario. Civic Sedan models for the U.S. are primarily produced and assembled at the Honda of America Manufacturing plant in East Liberty, Ohio. Civic Sedans are also produced and assembled at Honda of Canada Manufacturing in Alliston, Ontario. Some Civic Sedans and all Civic Hybrid models are produced and assembled in the Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Suzuka, Japan, manufacturing facility. In fall 2008, Honda's new manufacturing plant in Greensburg, Indiana, will begin Civic production and will have an annual capacity of 200,000 units.

BEIJING : August 19, 2008 - Brilliance Jinbei Automotive Co., a small Chinese automaker, will display cars at the Detroit auto show in January.


The company says it wants to start selling cars in the United States next year, but the cars have not passed U.S. government tests for safety and emissions. Brilliance says it has hired engineering consultants to upgrade their cars.

A Brilliance spokeswoman says the automaker will show four models in Detroit: the BS6 mid-sized sedan, BS4 compact car, BC3 coupe sports car and FRV hatchback.

In recent years, various Chinese automakers have announced ambitious plans to sell cars in the United States. But they later delayed or postponed their plans when they realized the substantial investment required to establish dealerships and upgrade their vehicles.

In July, Brilliance resumed selling the BS6 in Europe. Sales there were suspended about a year ago after the car fared poorly in a crash test. A video of the crash test received a lot of play in Europe.

At the Beijing auto show in April, Brilliance Vice President He Guohua told Automotive News China that Brilliance sent the BS6 and BS4 to the United States in June 2007 for emission and crash tests.

He said the crash test results were good, but the emission test showed problems, such as high levels of oxides of nitrogen.

He said Brilliance has hired the engineering arm of Porsche AG to work on the crash safety of the two models and FEV Inc., a U.S. engine technology company, to reduce emissions.

He expected all the improvements to be made by December.

Brilliance's spokeswoman says the company expects to sell cars in the United States sometime in 2009. She declined to provide further details on plans for U.S. dealers and distribution.

State-owned Brilliance, in Shenyang, Liaoning province, sold 32,006 BS6s and 82,311 BS4s in 2007, according to Automotive Resources Asia, a unit of J.D. Power and Associates.

Brilliance and joint-venture partner BMW AG produce BMW brand cars in China.

MEXICO CITY : August 18, 2008 - Volkswagen AG headed off a strike at its plant in Puebla, southeastern Mexico, over the weekend by agreeing to a 5.4 percent increase in wages and other benefits for its unionized workers.


The Independent Union of Volkswagen Workers had threatened to recommend its members to stop work at 11a.m. local time on Monday, if they failed to reach agreement with the company.

In addition to the 5.4 percent increase, the workers accepted an increase of 1,227 pesos ($120 U.S.) per year in grocery vouchers and an extra day in the calculation of their Christmas bonus.

The union's initial demand was a 13 percent increase in wages and benefits, a company spokesman at the Volkswagen plant in Puebla told Automotive News.

Located 75 miles southeast of Mexico City, the plant is the only one Volkswagen has in North America, although it plans to build another in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Chattanooga plant is scheduled to start production in 2011.

Strikers stopped production at the plant for five days in 2006 to press their demands. However, last year a strike was avoided after the union accepted a 4.35 percent wage and benefits hike plus another 111 pesos (about $10 at the time) per month in grocery vouchers.

Volkswagen assembled 264,884 passenger cars at the Puebla complex from January through July, 22 percent more than in the same period in 2007.

The company exported 222,029 units, or 83 percent of the total.

According to Volkswagen, the plant produced 117,635 Jettas, known as Boras in Mexico, 65,168 SportWagens, 47,866 former generation Jettas and 34,215 New Beetles.

The Puebla complex has a capacity of 450,000 vehicles a year. It employs 11,000 hourly workers out of a total work force of 16,000.

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 18, 2008 - The 2009 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner compact sport utility vehicles added to Ford's leading number of top-safety-rated vehicles by earning five stars in each of the government's crash-worthiness tests. The results top the Toyota RAV-4 and, with the 2009 Escape's improved fuel efficiency, offer better combined safety and fuel efficiency ratings than the Honda CR-V.


2009 Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid also achieved five-star ratings, the highest possible scores, in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) tests to outpace the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Toyota Prius. The Escape Hybrid arrived in 2005 as the world's only hybrid sport utility vehicle and today remains the only sport utility to offer at least 30 mpg city and highway ratings.

"Ford is a leader in safety and fuel economy - not even Toyota or Honda can match the new Escape's safety and fuel efficiency ratings," said Susan Cischke, Ford's senior vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering. "Ford has more five-star-rated vehicles than any other automaker, and we've committed to lead or be at the top of every segment in which we compete in terms of fuel efficiency."

The 2009 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner feature safety and fuel efficiency upgrades to compete and win in the hotly contested compact sport utility market.

Both models, which went on sale this summer, feature a full array of standard safety equipment, including dual front airbags, headliner mounted side curtain airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, Ford-exclusive AdvanceTrac? with RSC? Ford and Mercury compact SUVs get some of their core strength from selective use of high strength steel in the body structure. RAYONG, Thailand : August 18, 2008 - Ford Motor Co has confirmed plans to build its new Fiesta subcompact cars at its Rayong plant in Thailand next year, following the start of production of the models at its plant in Germany last week.



The Rayong plant is under construction to increase domestic production by at least 100,000 cars per year for export. In addition to the Fiesta, the first of a generation of new global small Ford cars, the subcompact Mazda 2 will be built at the plant.

Ford, in partnership with Mazda, is investing more than US$500 million to expand the Rayong plant.

The two companies plan to export the small cars to Asean, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in addition to selling them in the domestic market.

The all-new Fiesta was conceived by the European arm of Ford's global product development team to meet the expectations of customers around the world, according to Ford Motor.

It is also the blueprint for future Ford global development, bringing together Europe, the Americas and Asia. The new Fiesta will be tailored for each region and will go on sale progressively between now and 2010, starting with Europe.

The plant in Cologne, Germany is the first Ford assembly facility in the world to build the new car. It will be followed in January 2009 by another Ford plant in Valencia, Spain.


In addition to Rayong, production sites for the new Fiesta outside of Europe will be Nanjing in China and Cuautitln in Mexico. They will begin to make the cars for their respective regions from late 2008 through early 2010.

For this year, Ford plans to manufacture 148,000 new Fiestas in Cologne. When operating at full capacity, it will make more than 1,900 cars every day.

Since the very first Fiesta was launched in 1976, more than 12 million have been sold, with more than 400,000 customers in 2007 proving the enduring popularity of the model.

The Lincoln MKT crossover will join the Lincoln lineup in calendar year 2009, along with an upgraded Lincoln MKZ mid-size sedan -- plus an additional version of the flagship Lincoln MKS sedan powered by an EcoBoost engine.

In addition to a fuel-efficient 3.7-liter normally aspirated V-6 engine, the Lincoln MKT also will offer an EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 engine that will deliver an estimated 340 horsepower and 340 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Lincoln MKT will join other vehicles early in the EcoBoost engine technology rollout, including the Lincoln MKS luxury sedan and Ford Flex.

EcoBoost engines feature turbocharged direct injection technology and deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy and 15 percent improved emissions than larger-displacement engines. In the Lincoln MKS and MKT, for instance, the EcoBoost engine delivers the fuel economy of a V-6 engine but the performance feel of a V-8.

Ford is making a significant commitment to EcoBoost engine technology. Within five years, the company plans to produce 750,000 EcoBoost-equipped vehicles annually -- in vehicles ranging from small cars to full-size pickups in markets around the world.

"EcoBoost engine technology is another symbol of what luxury means today," Fields said. "Lincolns should drive as beautifully as they look, delivering as much refinement on the road as their designs do even while standing perfectly still."

Taking cues from its performance sedan sibling and the MKT concept vehicle first shown at the North American International Auto Show in January, the Lincoln MKT will feature the distinctive bow-wave, double-wing grille; clean, uncluttered surfaces; powerful, dynamic beltline; chamfered surface running parallel to the beltline; significant D-pillar that smoothly transitions into the cantilevered roof and a powerful roofrail.

"Embracing the same spirit as the concept, the Lincoln MKT's design represents harmony in motion, balancing sculptured shapes and contours traditionally associated with beautiful cars on a crossover vehicle that offers the luxury of space and efficient, powerful performance," said Peter Horbury, Ford's executive director of Design for The Americas.

The MKT will provide seating for up to seven passengers and all the latest in-car connectivity technologies that customers have come to expect from Lincoln.

This includes a new version of SYNC, the company's industry-leading connectivity technology that fully integrates customers' Bluetooth technologies including mobile phones and MP3 players.

Plus, next-generation navigation system technology and new safety and security features will be available, including the new Blind Spot Monitoring and Cross Traffic Alert System.

Working in conjunction with the blind spot information system, Cross Traffic Alert warns the driver of impending traffic while backing out of a parking spot.
When cross traffic is approaching, an indicator light provides a warning in the corresponding outside mirror, as well as an audible warning.

Cross Traffic Alert utilizes the blind spot system's two multibeam radar modules, which are packaged in the rear quarter panels -- one per side. These modules identify when a vehicle enters the defined blind spot zone; an indicator light provides a warning in the outside mirror corresponding to the side in which the vehicle is approaching.

The system can pick up an object moving at up to 18 miles per hour within a 65-foot range -- or three parking spaces -- from either the left or right side of the vehicle.

KARLSKOGA : August 18, 2008 - Despite strong lap times at the end of the race, Dahlgren finished fifth and Rustad sixth after an unfortunate pit stop.



This years eight race at Karlskoga looked like being Volvos weekend. Drivers Robert Dahlgren and Tommy Rustad were fastest and next fastest on both the test session and the preliminary qualification. During super pole, the Volvo drivers were even more impressive. Dahlgren claimed pole one tenth ahead of his team mate Rustad who in turn was five tenths faster than third placed Thed Björk.

The Volvo drivers started the race in the same fashion. Dahlgren was in the lead and Rustad in third place up to the pit stops. However the pit stops would prove extremely problematic for the Volvo team this day. One nut stuck on Dahlgren's car and on the next lap, when Rustad was in the pit, one of the air pistols failed. Both drivers lost valuable seconds and came out in sixth and seventh place. Despite strong lap times at the end of the race, Dahlgren finished fifth and Rustad sixth.

"Naturally very disappointing. These things do happen but on average once every 50 pit stops or even less. Now it happened twice in the same race. What is definitely positive is that we have taken 50 % of all the pole positions this year and our qualifying margins are growing. Also, we have made a big step forward to reduce tyre wear under the race. Our lap times towards the end of the races are continuously getting better. Now we need to have patience and continue to push", says Christian Dahl, team manager for the Volvo team Polestar.

Infiniti has released the first picture of the new Infiniti G37 Convertible which will receive its global debut at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Sales have initially been confirmed only for the US market where it will be launched early in 2009.

Based on the Infiniti G37 Coupé, the Infiniti G37 Convertible promises beautiful styling and the dynamic performance worthy of an Infiniti G. The Infiniti G37 Convertible will feature a three-piece automatic retracting hardtop, to keep a coupé-like roofline, and the option of a unique interior treatment. Audio and air conditioning systems have been tuned to operate perfectly with the top up or down.

The Infiniti G37 Convertible is under study for launch in Europe where it would join its sister G models, the Infiniti G37 Sedan and Coupé, in Infiniti Centres which begin opening across the Continent from October.

HIROSHIMA : August 18, 2008 - Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has announced that orders for the new Mazda Biante minivan were more than double the sales target in its first month of sales. Orders have surpassed 6,000 units since the Biante was launched in Japan on July 8, 2008.



To date, 90 percent of orders have been for models equipped with the 2.0-liter direct injection engine. Approximately 65 percent of customers have opted for the 20S grade, followed by 26 percent who chose the 20CS grade and 9 percent who selected the 23S. While most customers who selected the Biante have families and are in their 30s and 40s, orders have been placed by a wide range of people. Customer feedback indicates that the main reasons for choosing the Biante are its exterior design, spacious interior*¹ and quiet cabin. The flexible seat arrangements that include a 'living mode' (which enables the seats to be adjusted backwards to maximize interior space), the excellent dynamic stability, and the Biante's affordability (due to regular gasoline being the recommended fuel*²) were also highlighted.

The most popular exterior colors have been the featured Lilac Silver Metallic, Brilliant Black and Crystal White Pearl Mica, which together make up 70 percent of orders. The most preferred factory-installed options have been the power sliding doors with leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, selected by 90 percent of customers; the Clean Air package*³, chosen by 70 percent of customers; and the Comfort package*⁴, chosen by 60 percent of customers.

Mazda's senior managing executive officer in charge of Domestic Business and Customer Service, Masazumi Wakayama, said, "Mazda has waited for the optimal time to launch the Biante, and we are extremely pleased that it has attracted so many orders. We expect that its popularity will continue and this will have a positive impact on our overall sales results in Japan."
